These are photographs of more than 300 individual panes of ‘pavement lights’, heavy glass window blocks set into concrete adjacent to the outer walls of shops to provide light to basements.
These particular panes are outside the Gucci store on London’s Old Bond Street, where, in contrast to other premises in the area, the blocks are nearly all cracked, creating unique crystalline images reminiscent of rough diamonds, landscapes, the austere gestures of minimalist abstract art, static across obsolete vacuum-tube TV screens, or the tracks in a particle accelerator’s bubble chamber.
Unique prints of each individual pane are also available here.
